The UNLV License Plate Fund provides scholarships to UNLV students each year. The UNLV Alumni Association and Athletics split the fund and make awards to deserving students who meet the criteria. The following are the scholarships funded out of the plate monies.

Mecca Walker ’17 BA-EC-Economics and BA-Spanish

Mecca was awarded the Child of Alumni Scholarship in her sophomore year shortly after her father completed his master’s degree from UNLV.

In 2017, Mecca graduated and went on to graduate school to pursue an MBA in international business at Missouri State University where she is the president of the MBA Association. Mecca was awarded a McNair Graduate scholarship and works as a graduate assistant. Her goal is to work as a consultant for minority-owned businesses where she’s able to help in English and Spanish.

Alex Moore '11 '14 PhD-Psychology

Alex was awarded the UNLV Alumni Association's prestigious Sterling Scholarship of $5,000 to help him complete his doctoral program. Alex worked at the University of Missouri as a postdoctoral fellow working with David Geary, Ph.D. who is a leader in mathematical skill development. Today, Alex is a visiting assistant professor teaching statistics, cognition, and supervising students in his mathematical cognition lab at Franklin and Marshall College.

“When I received the scholarship it was a surprise. I felt honored to have been selected. Graduate scholarships are rare, especially one for $5,000. This scholarship fully funded my dissertation research, which was a big step in pursuing a career in research and teaching."
