Jacob Thompson, Keynote Speaker UNLV Creates 2016

The fourth annual UNLV Creates took place at the Thomas & Mack Center during Welcome Day on Aug. 26, 2016. UNLV Creates is the annual academic welcoming ceremony which provides for new students and their families a formal and engaging event that welcomes them to the university, educates them about the transformative opportunities of a college degree, and highlights faculty creativity, inspiration, and discovery. 2016’s Keynote Speaker was Jacob Thompson, Director, Sanford I. Berman Debate Forum & Associate Professor-in-Residence, Communication Studies in the UNLV Greenspun College of Urban Affairs. Also appearing on stage was Ramona Denby-Brinson, Professor, Greenspun College of Urban Affairs School of Social Work, Ernesto Abel-Santos, Professor of Biochemistry and Anjala S. Under his leadership, UNLV's debate team has risen rapidly since its rebirth in 2007 and has been ranked among the best teams in the nation for several years. Thompson's research and teaching focuses on political and presidential debates, argumentation theory and practice, persuasion, and the rhetoric of American foreign policy.
