Biography

Ray Fletcher, also known around the halls of KUNV as Rebel Ray, is a UNLV alum who completed his bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies in the fall of 2022. After completing his associates degree in 2003, Ray worked in the IT field for 5 years before transitioning to sales, where he would spend several years selling different types of products for different companies. That led Ray to create his own online retail business that he ran for 5 years.

A changing industry, a competitive market, and a growing family led Ray to close his business in 2016 and spend more time with his two children, Frankie and Norris. In 2017, Ray decided to return to school and pursue an education in a completely different field. Initially, he enrolled in the college of education, aspiring to become a high school teacher. He quickly learned that he wasn’t passionate about that field and looked for other opportunities.

Ray saw a posting that said “Host your own radio show” and found KUNV. He volunteered to host “The Morning Rush” five days a week from 8-10 a.m. He also joined the KUNV Sports team to learn about broadcasting live sporting events. Ray was offered a student worker position as a production assistant and continued learning different aspects of the radio industry including audio production and event promotion.

Ray is one of the 12 inaugural members of the Minority Serving Institute Student Council. During MSI Week of 2022, Ray, along with KUNV and the MSI Student Council, put on REBFEST 2022, which brought live entertainment back to the UNLV campus for the first time since before the COVID pandemic. The music festival brought the campus and community together behind headliner Guapdad 4000 and a host of other local and national acts from diverse backgrounds.

Ray is currently the campus engagement producer for KUNV and works part-time for the Las Vegas Raiders as a production assistant of audio programming.
