Biography

Julia Michel is a visiting lecturer specializing in pedagogy, curriculum writing, interventions, and school administration. Julia earned her BA at the University of California San Diego, her M. Ed. in school administration from the California State University San Bernardino, is licensed to teach in multiple states, and has a CrossCultural Language & Academic Development (CLAD) certification as well as a Gifted and Talented certification. After eight years of teaching, she moved into administration, first as a school administrator of interventions and later as a district administrator of English language learners. From there, Mrs. Michel worked for the state of California, writing curriculum and leading staff development for districts across the state.  

Mrs. Michel's research has been in English language learners and vocabulary instruction as she worked with the world-renowned Linda Diamond with the Consortium on Reaching Excellence in Education (CORE) and co-authored The Vocabulary Handbook (Core Literacy Library). In addition, her higher education experience includes working with several universities as a field experience supervisor for their college of education. She is currently with UNLV's teaching and learning department as a full-time lecturer for the PPP program.
