The Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education (M.A.T.S.E.) degree was approved by the Board of Regents of Nevada System of Higher Education at their December 2022 meeting. The Master of Arts in Teaching is a widely accepted degree nationally for programs that lead to initial teacher licensure. Currently, the university prepares licensed content teachers via a sub-plan of the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (M.Ed.) degree. The M.A.T.S.E. is designed for individuals with a bachelor's degree who are interested in becoming high school teachers and who are not yet licensed to teach.
