We are thrilled to announce an exclusive study abroad opportunity this summer in Italy, specially designed for UNLV Honors College students.

UNLV’s Office of International Programs has coordinated a special 5-week study abroad experience in Torino, Italy, featuring courses taught by HC Professor Cian McMahon. This is a rare opportunity to earn the equivalent of 6 HON credits while immersing yourself in a new culture and creating unforgettable memories. This program is only open to Honors College students from UNLV and our sister university, UNR.

  • Location: Torino, Italy

  • Exclusive Honors Course: HON 430 – Soccer & the Making of the Modern World taught by HC History Professor Cian McMahon, Ph.D.

  • Earn 6 HON Credits: If you take Professor McMahon’s HON 430 and another approved upper-division USAC course, you can cover the equivalent of two HON 400-level seminar courses (6 credits) toward fulfilling your Honors College requirements.

Costs and Extra Scholarship Funds Reserved for Torino

The overall cost of this 5-week summer program in Torino can vary based on living preferences, travel arrangements, etc. You can find more information about costs on USAC’s Torino page for 2024 Summer Session I, including an interactive budget sheet which provides a detailed breakdown of all possible costs.

To offset costs, we strongly encourage you to apply for a number of scholarships. UNLV’s Office for International Programs has kindly shared a list of Study Abroad Scholarship Opportunities, many of which are applicable to this Torino summer program.

In addition, UNLV has a one-time pool of funds reserved for students studying abroad this summer. Be sure to ask about this when you meet with the International Programs team. With the available scholarships, the 5-week Torino program (including the 6 credits you earn) could be more affordable than taking those 6 credits regularly at UNLV.

The City & the Program

Torino is a city where Baroque architecture meets modern design, rich in cultural sites and vibrant markets. You’ll study at the prestigious SAA - School of Management of the University of Torino, surrounded by an international community and modern amenities. Plus, you will get to experience this within the shared community of Honors College students from UNLV and UNR if you take Dr. McMahon’s HON 430 course! For living accommodations, students will share private apartments in Torino, enjoying Italy's walking culture and easy access to school via the city's extensive transit system.

How to Apply

Because this is an HC exclusive program, you will not see the details about Professor McMahon’s HON 430 course and the scholarships on the USAC Program Description page. Before starting your application, please contact the Office of International Programs at international.programs@unlv.edu.

The application deadline is March 15, 2024.

We hope you will take advantage of this incredible opportunity to study abroad in Torino, Italy!
