Each biennium, UNLV places legislative interns and externs in Carson City to assist lawmakers with various duties such as tracking bills, conducting research, and meeting with constituents. The experience takes the classroom to the community, empowering students to have real-world impact on some of Nevada’s most critical issues. The opportunity is open to all UNLV majors, though most participants are political science and law majors.
Each week during the legislative session, we will introduce you to one of UNLV’s interns or externs. This week, we are highlighting an intern from the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs:

What excites you most about the legislative session?
I'm excited about the plethora of legislation that's in rotation with hopes to promote a positive impact on the state.
What do you hope to learn?
I want to learn about how the fast-paced climate of the Nevada State Legislature will mitigate the production of effective and quality policy measures at the state level.
Which legislative proposal do you find most interesting and why?
The overturning of Roe v. Wade dismantled decades of progress in fighting for reproductive justice, so I'm hoping to witness the passing of SB 131 and SJR 7 in order to codify reproductive healthcare rights into the Nevada State Constitution.
