Joshua Thomas, first year Artist Diploma candidate in the Voice Area of the School of Music, was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition - Utah District. He will next compete at the Regional level in Denver, CO in February 2024. This competition was established to identify early career opera singers and provide development funding and exposure to industry professionals.

Along with this competition win, Josh was selected as a Sandford Studio Artist with Kentucky Opera in Louisville, KY, where he will be singing the Sergeant of Police in their 2024 Spring production of The Pirates of Penzance.. Along with mainstage experience, this program provides outreach into the community and coaching/development for the singers. 

At UNLV, Josh is a student of Andre Chiang, DMA, PAVA-RV, and is also performing dual roles with UNLV Opera in their 2023 Fall double bill of Prima la musica and La Divina.
