Senior, School of Life Sciences

Growing up in Las Vegas, she always wanted to attend her hometown university. Another draw for the Millennium Scholar who wants to be a physician was the success of the College of Sciences preprofessional program.

Growing Up

I grew up right here in Las Vegas and graduated from Durango High School. I’ve lived here for as long as I can remember.

Why UNLV?

I chose to attend UNLV because it is in my hometown so it’s a place I’m comfortable with. Also, my older brother had already started his studies here and told me of UNLV’s success premedical students and the help they receive to prepare them for medical school.

Why did you choose the area of study that you did?

I chose biology in hopes of moving forward to medical school and becoming a doctor. I think what doctors do is incredible. Every day they use their knowledge and their skills to help a person’s life in such a great manner. It’s a career where you get to learn every day since medicine is always changing and evolving.

Future Plans

Once I graduate with my bachelor’s degree this spring, I will continue to be in Las Vegas to continue my research both in the UNLV labs, and as a research assistant off campus. During that time I’ll also be involved with a new health program currently developing. I hope to apply to medical school next summer and continue on to become a physician.

Advice for Students

Work hard, play hard! Dreams don’t work unless you do, so make sure you’re doing what you have to do school wise and extracurricular wise to accomplish your goals, but also make sure to have fun and experience the college life.

Scholarships, Awards, or Other Activities

I received the Millennium Scholarship as well as the Ronald McDonald House Charities scholarship when I was a freshman. I also am a part of Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), which is a pre-health honor society, and am currently the humanitarian chair.

Outside Work

I love music, discovering music, and going to concerts. There’s no feeling quite like being in a room with thousands of others for the same sole purpose of purely enjoying the music. I also love to run and stay active. Keeping up with fashion trends is also fun and reading and writing is something I do to relax!
