Michael Fong

Assistant Chair, Department of Art
Expertise: 3D Printing, Public Art, Digital Fabrication, Kinetic Sculptures

Biography

Michael Fong’s work focuses on a wide variety of art, including 3D printing, public art, digital fabrication, and kinetic sculptures. He takes an interdisciplinary approach to his research and teaching, incorporating science and responding to abstract data values such as the rise and fall of the U.S. housing market.

After completing his master's degree, Fong helped develop the digital fabrications courses and facilities at Syracuse University's Design and Art schools. Several years later, the Las Vegas native returned to UNLV to join the Art Department, where he serves as both an assistant professor and assistant chair.

Consistent with his goal of establishing a strong foundation for digital fabrication technology and research on campus, Fong in 2019 debuted a state-of-the-art design lab that is open to all department faculty and students who want to print and prepare their work or experiment with the latest technology.
