Before You Apply

Before applying to the Service-Learning Honors Program, you must first have been admitted as an undergraduate to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Learn more about admission to UNLV.

Steps to Apply

1. Meet with Honors Advising

Schedule an appointment with Honors College Advising to discuss how HON 496 and the HON 400-level seminars fit into your graduation plan.

2. Submit Application

Please determine which of the scenarios best describes your current situation and submit the corresponding materials for your application.

  1. First-year UNLV student who has already satisfied most or all of UNLV’s general education requirements though a dual enrollment program in high school. Please submit the following materials via email to honors@unlv.edu:
    • SH Application Form
      • Includes the name and contact information for an instructor who has agreed to provide a letter of recommendation
    • Transcript(s) for any college credit earned outside of UNLV
    • Writing sample – a research paper from a previous college-level course with the instructor’s name and school included
  2. Transfer student or current UNLV student (non-Honors). Please submit the following materials via email to honors@unlv.edu:
    • SH Application Form
      • Includes the name and contact information for an instructor who has agreed to provide a letter of recommendation
    • Writing sample – a research paper from a previous UNLV or other university course with the instructor’s name and email included

Steps after Admission

1. Enroll in your first HON 400-level seminar

2. Upon completion of your first HON 400-level seminar, enroll in HON 496.

3. Continue taking remaining HON 400 classes and your second HON 496 course.
