Testing and Placement
Placement Tests
All new English Language Center students take a placement assessment prior to starting the program unless they present an official language test score (TOEFL iBT, IELTS, etc.). For the Intensive English Program, assessment and placement take place on the first day of the semester during class time. For first year composition courses (ENG 113E; ENG113F; ENG 113), students must show proof of language proficiency or take a placement test prior to registering for the course.
Register for Testing
To register for a test to place into a Composition course, or to take the Accuplacer, please follow these steps:
- Email elc@unlv.edu to obtain a test application form.
- Pay your fees at Cashiering Services.
- Bring the completed application form, the paid receipt to the English Language Center, and a government issued ID.
- When those documents have been received, you will be given an appointment for the required test.
