Nutrition Consultations

Our Registered Dietitian (RD) assists and guides students, faculty, and staff in developing healthy eating habits.

Cost: Free for current students who have paid the Student Health Fee. Current faculty/staff/eligible dependents over the age of 18 may schedule an appointment for a fee.

Role of the Registered Dietitian (RD)

The RD provides objective, evidence-based nutrition information and clarifies nutrition myths and facts. The RD can help you develop healthy eating habits that complement your individual lifestyle and exercise/activity level.

What Happens During A Visit?

A nutrition consultation includes, but is not limited to:

  • Evaluation of current eating habits and behaviors.
  • Development of personal nutrition goals to fit into your lifestyle.

An initial appointment is either 30-min or 60-min in length, depending on your reason for visit.

Common reasons for visits include: fad diets, sports nutrition, diabetes management, weight management, healthy eating habits, cholesterol or blood pressure management, and disordered eating/eating disorders.

Individuals with medical needs requiring nutritional modifications will receive individualized nutrition counseling based on their medical condition. NOTE: Some needs/conditions may be referred off-campus or to another medical provider.

Registered Dietitian (RD) v. Nutritionist

A Registered Dietitian (RD) has completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college and completed both academic and experiential requirements set by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission on Dietetic Registration. The RD must pass a professional exam and participate in continuing education to maintain credentialing.

In many states, a person must be an RD to use the nutritionist title. In Nevada, a nutritionist can be anyone who chooses to use the title, regardless of whether or not the person has any training in nutrition.
