Biography

Nancy Lough is a professor in UNLV’s College of Education, where she leads the master's degree program in intercollegiate and professional sport management master’s degree as well as the graduate- and undergraduate-level college sport leadership certificate programs and the leadership certificate program. Her areas of expertise include sport marketing and sponsorship, development of women leaders, improving gender equity and diversity in sport.

She has served as a consultant for Title IX issues in Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico. Prior to UNLV, Dr. Lough served as a sport management faculty member at the University of New Mexico, Iowa State University and Kent State University. Dr. Lough has extensive experience in intercollegiate athletics including competing as a scholarship athlete and having worked as a collegiate coach in Texas and California, an associate athletic director in Colorado, and director of an NCAA National Championship.

As an expert in the areas of organizational leadership, gender equity, marketing and corporate sponsorship, she has published widely in scholarly journals and has been quoted in media outlets such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Sports Business Journal, and international outlets.

Dr. Lough serves on the advisory board for the University of Colorado Business of Sport Certificate program and the PGA Golf Management program at UNLV. In addition, she has been an invited keynote speaker and conducted leadership training for a variety of organizations. Her scholarly work has earned distinction with two publications featured in the Top 20 articles in the first 20 years of Sport Marketing Quarterly, in addition to selection as a Sport Marketing Association Research Fellow. Dr. Lough received the Stotlar Award in 2017 for mentorship in sport marketing. She served as the editor for Sport Marketing Quarterly from 2010 to 2012, the president of the Sport Marketing Association (2013-2015) and (2019 – 2021) and recently published the Handbook on the Business of Women’s Sport (2019).
