1. Complete Onboarding Tasks in Workday – During your first days at UNLV, you will need to complete, and submit onboarding items, including your I-9, W-4, UNLV policies, and the constitutional oath (for teaching faculty only). Talk with your supervisor about what is required and how to submit your Onboarding Tasks in Workday.
  2. Register for Benefits Enrollment Class – All new benefits-eligible employees are required to attend the new hire benefits enrollment class. During the class, you will be able to enroll in the university’s health and retirement plans. Your department will schedule your class or you may call 702-895-3504 to schedule a time.
  3. Employees receive paychecks based on their classification:

    Classification Pay Date(s)
    Academic & Administrative Faculty First business day of the month immediately following the month in which the salary was earned.
    Classified staff 10th and 25th of each month
    Letter of Appointment First business day of the month immediately following the month in which the salary was earned.
    Casual Labor 10th and 25th of each month
    Student Worker 10th and 25th of each month

    Note: If a pay date falls on a weekend or holiday, pay distribution will be made on the last business day before the weekend or holiday for classified staff, casual labor, and student workers. For letter of appointment, faculty, and professional staff, pay distribution will be made on the first business day after the first of the month.

    Set up your payroll direct deposit through Workday. Find this task by typing ‘Add Payment Elections’ in the search bar.

  4. Learn More About UNLV – New faculty and professional staff can learn about university policies, departments, and services during new employee orientation.
  5. Get Familiar With the Campus – Every building on campus is assigned a three-letter abbreviation. For example, the Campus Services Building is abbreviated “CSB.” Usually you can find the name of the facility along with its abbreviation located on the outside of each building. You can familiarize yourself with campus by downloading a map or taking a tour.
  6. Enjoy On-Campus Conveniences – Enjoy a host of on-campus conveniences, including a bank, bookstore, convenience store, food court, recreation center, and coffee shops. Many of these amenities are located in the Student Union.
  7. Check out Las Vegas – UNLV is walking distance from numerous retail establishments and minutes away from the Strip and the airport.
