Dec. 14, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

Due to the tragic events of last week, Fall 2023 has turned out to be the most difficult semester in the history of UNLV.  As we make our way to the conclusion of the semester, we wanted to provide some key updates and reminders to help wrap up the term.

S/U Grading Option: We will allow students to opt for Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading in most fall 2023 courses after grades have been submitted. No action is necessary on your part other than submitting your grades by the December 19 deadline.  Students will be able to request changing to S/U beginning December 22.  Some schools and courses are excluded. For more information, please visit the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) Grading website.

Pop-Up Student Support Services:  We are now offering some student services in the Lied Library from 8 AM to 5 PM through Dec. 22. These include academic advising, Financial Aid and Registrar services, IT services, and Rebel Card services.  Lied Library is open to members of the UNLV community from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Retrieving Your Personal Belongings: Other than BEH, you may access your own building with your proximity card. Please do not gather or move any items left in classrooms or other common spaces on December 6 as we are collecting and logging those items for return to their owners.  If you left an item in a common space around campus on December 6, please complete this property retrieval form and we will get it returned to you as soon as possible.  To have someone else pick up your items, you may designate that individual on the form.

Teaching Resources: For end-of-semester instructional support, you can find up-to-date information and guidance through our Teaching Resources Guide. You may also find helpful resources on OIT’s Teach Anywhere website.  Online Education and the Teaching and Learning Commons are providing virtual lab support daily from 10 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 3 PM today and tomorrow and upon request after that.

UNLV Strong Website: We know that this has been a traumatic event and that everyone grieves and manages the trauma in their own way. We encourage you to take the time and space that you need to recover and heal. Please remember that you can find information about resources to help you along the healing journey on the UNLV Strong website.

These are unprecedented and painful times. We are here to help and support you. Please reach out if we can be of assistance and together we will find our way forward.

Warm regards,

Chris Heavey
