UNLV's Office of Economic Development is proud to have played a pivotal role in the inaugural Zero Labs x UNLV Innovation Launchpad, which took place Jan. 26-28 at UNLV’s Black Fire Innovation.

The three-day event brought 21 aspiring innovators together with thought leaders, industry experts, angel investors, and venture capitalists – all sharing a common vision for the future of entrepreneurship in Nevada. Throughout the weekend, participants honed their ideas with the guidance of over a dozen subject matter experts, delving into workshops covering a range of topics including creation of core business elements, competitive strategy, and development approaches.

UNLV collaborated with Zero Labs and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) to host the event, which is quickly emerging as a cornerstone program for startups and early stage companies.

“At the Q1 2024 Launchpad, it was nothing short of inspiring to see the diverse and experienced cohort of founders and entrepreneurs unite to turn their visions into actionable plans,” said Quinton Singleton, founder and principal at Zero Labs. “It's a clear signal that Nevada is not just embracing change but is at the forefront of driving it.”

The Launchpad is already planning a spring session, with a goal to enable aspiring entrepreneurs to realize their vision and support a growing and increasingly diverse Nevada economy.

"The Innovation Launchpad is not just an event; it's the birthplace of tomorrow's industry leaders," said Robert Rippee, director of UNLV’s Black Fire Innovation. "The raw talent and sheer determination we witnessed promise an exciting future for the innovation landscape."

Following the Launchpad program, participants will continue to have access to an active community platform, office hours, and other support provided by all three organizations. Additionally, as they move forward, they're not only armed with new skills and connections but also with the mantle of mentorship for the next cohort, ensuring a continuous cycle of innovation.

"The convergence of such diverse and innovative ideas at the Innovation Launchpad has been truly impressive,” said Karsten Heise, senior director of strategic programs and innovation at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “The ambition and potential demonstrated by the participants are indicative of the robust future that lies ahead for Nevada's economic development. This event is a prime example of how strategic collaboration and targeted support can yield substantial results in fostering a culture of innovation."
