Biography

Dr. Marc J. Kahn is the dean of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. He is a prolific researcher in benign hematology, medical education, and healthcare finance. New to Nevada, Dr. Kahn is enthusiastic about developing curricula, clinical programs, and research to elevate healthcare in the region.  

He has served in leadership roles with the Association of American Medical Colleges, American College of Physicians, American Society of Hematology, National Board of Medical Examiners, and the National Residency Matching Program.

Dr. Kahn has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts in addition to 110 book chapters and 5 textbooks. Dr. Kahn also has an MBA and recently published the book, “Business Basics of Building and Managing a Healthcare Practice.”

Prior to joining UNLV in April 2020, Dr. Kahn was a senior associate dean at Tulane University School of Medicine.

For years in Las Vegas, the saying went something like this: "if you need specialized medical care, go to the airport," because then you can catch a flight to Los Angeles or some other city with a hospital that actually does that surgery. Well, that’s slowly changing.

There is a primary care shortage across the country – including here in Nevada. The state’s rank among U.S. states is currently 45th for active physicians per 100,000, according to the American Medical Association. Currently, there are 7,388 physicians (MDs and DOs) with an active license to practice in Nevada. We need an additional 1,500 primary care physicians to meet the national average.
