Rick B. Thiriot

Associate Professor in Residence of Clinical Sciences & Associate Dean for Clinical Services

Biography

Dr. Rick Thiriot, associate dean of clinical services and associate professor-in-residence, joined UNLV School of Dental Medicine during spring 2007 as a one-day-a-week volunteer and was hired full time during November of that year. In his current role, Dr. Thiriot co-directs a course in advanced restorative dentistry, and clinical diagnostic conference: grand rounds. He is also a guest lecturer and clinical instructor for the general clinic and pre-clinical courses.

Dr. Thiriot was a member of the United States Navy Reserve from 1969-1975, earned his undergraduate degree in biology from UNLV during 1977, and his doctor of dental surgery degree from University of the Pacific School of Dental Surgery during 1981. He also earned the Volunteers in Medicine Award and the Pierre Fauchard Teaching Award during 2010.

He served as past president of the Southern Nevada Dental Society and the Nevada Dental Association, and as a former two-term board member of the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners. He also served as past president of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry Alumni Association, and is a former board member of the American Lung Association, Las Vegas Chapter.

Dr. Thiriot is currently a member of the American College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists, and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He directs the UNLV School of Dental Medicine’s Saturday Service Clinics, which includes the Ferrin Memorial Veterans Clinic, Women’s Clinic, Children’s Clinic, and Homeless Clinic.
