Nancy Nivison Menzel’s research focus is on the health of workers. She has conducted several studies on the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in nurses through ergonomic and psychosocial interventions. She also collaborated in a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-funded project to revise the curricula of schools of nursing to include safe patient handling principles. She was program director of a two-year occupational safety and health administration grant that trained 750 southern Nevada construction workers in fall prevention. In addition, she has conducted qualitative research on the causes and prevention of injuries and illnesses in Hispanic construction workers. She is a Certified Clinical Specialist in Community Health Nursing, a Certified Nurse Educator, and Certified in Public Health. She has published articles in a variety of journals, including occupational health, pain management, and nursing education.  She is a co-editor of The Illustrated Guide to Safe Patient Handling and Movement (2009), Springer Publishing and has written chapters in other nursing textbooks.

Menzel serves on the School’s Academic Affairs Committee. She is a former at-large member of the Southern Nevada Board of Health and a past president of the Nevada Public Health Association.  She is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Nursing Studies and reviews articles for the Western Journal of Nursing Research, American Journal of Industrial Medicine, and Biological Research for Nursing.
