Margaret I. Campe, Ph.D., the new Director of the Jean Nidetch CARE Center received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Kentucky in 2019 where her research focused on using intersectional theory and methods to examine gender-based violence on college campuses and in the broader community. Campe worked at the Center for Research on Violence Against Women throughout her time at the University of Kentucky, collaborating on research projects in partnership with community-based organizations as well as the University’s campus climate survey. Campe is particularly interested in connecting theory and methods to practice with a focus on the experiences of those who are most marginalized.
Dr. Campe has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed articles, campus sexual assault and students with disabilities, and methods in college campus climate surveys. Dr. Campe also has chapters coming out on mixed-methods research designs in the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of Domestic Violence and Abuse, and feminist praxis in the forthcoming Companion to Feminist Studies. Currently, Dr. Campe is editing a forthcoming textbook, Substance Use and Family Violence, slated for 2021 publication with Cognella.
Campe has worked and volunteered in government and non-profit agencies dedicated to the prevention and intervention of violence in Minnesota and Oregon.
