Before UNLV, Marcus was Associate Dean in Graduate Studies at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). He received an MFA in Studio Art from University of California, Irvine, and a BA in Theater from Brown University. He is a founder of New Urban Arts, a non-profit art after-school program in Providence, Rhode Island. His writing appears on Artforum.com. He has also written for Art Papers, Afterimage, Aufgabe, The Cortland Review, Full Bleed, Momus, and Nerve Lantern, and is the author of chapters in the books: Incident Report (Publication Studio) and No Gender: Reflections on the Life and Work of kari edwards (Litmus Press). His text Megaphone! was published by Press Press. Exhibitions include: St. Charles Projects and School 33 Art Center in Baltimore; Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro; Boston Center for the Arts; and Recess Art in New York; among others. He has performed in fields, basements, garages, classrooms, at UNLV’s Donna Beam Gallery, UMASS Boston, The Kitchen in New York, and LAXART, LACE, and The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Transmodern in Baltimore, and The Supernova Performance Art Festival in Rosslyn, Virginia. In Las Vegas, he teaches performance and started an under-the-radar late-night community performance night called RADAR.
