Justin Tomas Gomez (he/him) serves as the Assistant Director of Career & Professional Development where he leads the implementation and scale of culturally responsive career education for UNLV students and alumnx.
As an educator, Justin considers himself a “Cultural Navigator” or “Nepantlera” who has been successfully navigating cultures since birth. He is the youngest of four children in a multicultural, multi-generational family. His mother, Laurita, is East-Indian and his father, Tomas, is Mestizo. His ancestors hail from India, Belize, Jamaica, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Justin is passionate about dismantling biased systems and policies in higher education and works to prepare graduates for personal and professional success in a diverse and multicultural world.
Justin previously served the Multicultural Advisor and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Strategist at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he founded the Multicultural Business Program (MBP) an initiative that contributed an increase in the enrollment, retention, and graduation of traditionally underserved, historically underrepresented and marginalized students in higher education and the Orfalea College of Business.
Justin is also a cultural coach, certified in Cultural Intelligence (CQ), an internationally recognized credential, by the Cultural Intelligence Center. He works with individuals, groups, and organizations to assess, understand, and improve their cultural intelligence, manage unconscious bias, and prepare them to successfully engage in the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
