Biography

Jarod T. Giger, Ph.D. is a first generation college graduate and associate professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Social Work with over 10 years of social work practice experience. He has served as Editorial Board member of The Journal of Rural Health since 2015. From 2018-2021 he served as the Vernon Wiehe Excellence in Social Work Endowed Professor and in 2019 he was invited and inducted as an Associate of the University of Kentucky Center for Interprofessional Health Education. Dr. Giger received his doctoral training at the University of Missouri School of Social work where he trained in Dr. Marjorie Skubic’s Electrical and Computer Engineering lab at the University of Missouri Interdisciplinary Center for Eldercare and Rehabilitation Technology. In 2010 he earned his doctoral degree in social work from the University of Missouri School of Social Work followed by a 2012 rural health fellowship at the National Rural Health Association. In 2016 Dr. Giger was one of seventeen scholars invited to attend the Johns Hopkins University summer research institute on developing behavioral interventions. Dr. Giger is principally involved in multidisciplinary and community-based research. His current area of interest and research focuses on subjective well being, eHealth literacy, and modern, robust statistics.
