Izzy has worked for local non-profit organizations in the valley, including the LGBTQ+ Center of Southern Nevada, and has previously worked for the ASC as a peer mentor during her time as an undergraduate student. Izzy is excited to begin her role as an academic advising specialist, mentoring and advocating for students during their transition into higher education.

Advising Philosophy Statement

In order to foster student success in and out of the classroom, my advising philosophy revolves around growing students' self-efficacy and confidence to make decisions that enrich their undergraduate careers and empower them. Taking a student-centered approach, I view the student’s academic goals, career aspirations, personal interests, and daily responsibilities holistically by asking open-ended questions to help guide my advising. Together, we will break down the stigma surrounding exploring majors and the uncertainty defining it to produce academic goals that are attainable, achievable, and desirable to the student.

It is important to me that my students feel supported, welcomed, and represented. When a student walks into my office, they can expect a warm atmosphere that promotes a stress-free environment where they can safely express their thoughts and experiences. The Exploring student population at UNLV has also allowed me to work with diverse groups, first-generation students, and adult learners at different points in their undergraduate careers.
