Cheryl Perna, MSN, RN

Cheryl Perna serves as a member of the Student Affairs Committee and is a member of the Education Advisory Committee for the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
Perna received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Rhode Island. At the master’s level, she specialized in nursing administration and mental health nursing. Her graduate work focused on developing and implementing a “Care for the Caregiver” program based on the Critical Incident Stress Management model and the Assaulted Staff Action Program. Her Care for the Caregiver program helped to address specific work related stressful situations experienced by nursing staff working in acute care mental health.
Perna has 17 years of clinical and leadership experience working in mental health. She has worked with a variety of populations. Her specialty area is child and adolescent psychiatric nursing. Ms. Perna’s professional interests include restraint reduction, enhancing de-escalation, mentoring, improving nurses work satisfaction and improving safety and quality of care.
