Associate Professor, Department of Orthopaedics
Dr. Carolien de Roode-Wentz, an associate professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Orthopedics, is the only fellowship-trained pediatric hand surgeon in Nevada.
Both her medical school training and a general surgery residency were done at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno, Nevada. She also completed a residency in pediatric orthopedics at the University of Missouri Kansas City. In addition, she completed a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Shriner’s Hospital for Children Northern California.
Board certified, Dr. de Roode-Wentz mentors UNLV orthopedic residents and chairs the musculoskeletal education program for the UNLV School of Medicine.
Dr. de Roode-Wentz says it is an incredible experience for her to see a child begin to feed themselves or to walk again after a surgery when it was previously a challenge for them to perform such simple tasks. She adds that she is always honored to be part of a patient’s family and to help them improve their everyday functions.
Dr. de Roode-Wentz volunteers on medical mission trips to Central America and provides pediatric orthopaedic surgery in Nicaragua.
