Carmen Flores, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Surgery
Dr. Carmen Flores, an assistant professor of surgery at the UNLV School of Medicine, believes a great physician/surgeon always treats patients as if they were family. She is currently a member of the nationally renowned trauma team at the UMC Trauma Center.
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, she completed her residency training in general surgery through Maricopa Integrated Health Systems in Arizona and two fellowships -- one in surgical critical care and the other in trauma/acute care -- at the UNLV School of Medicine.
She is currently a principal investigator on a multii-center national trial on burn treatment. Certified as an Advanced Burn Life Support Instructor, Dr. Flores is also certified as an Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor.
Dr. Flores, the mother of four children, often is called on to perform life-saving surgery on victims of shootings, stabbings, fires and car accidents.
“The satisfaction of saving the life of a mother, father or child is better than anything,” she says. “It carries you through the long hours and difficult cases."
