Biography

April G. Douglass is a visiting assistant professor of literacy specializing in literature, early reading development, dyslexia, and social-emotional learning (SEL) practices in the classroom. Douglass began her education career as a first-grade teacher in the Houston area before moving on to earn her Ph.D. in reading and language arts education from Texas A&M University, where she later served as a clinical assistant professor. Some of Douglass's research examining the impact of SEL components on reading attainment are published in The Reading Teacher and Reading & Writing Quarterly. She also examines in-service and pre-service teacher knowledge of critical teaching components. Douglass's research focuses on the impact of social-emotional learning components on reading attainment, teacher knowledge, early reading development, and impactful writing practices.
