Amy Ellwood, MSW, LCSW, BCD is Professor Emerita of Family Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. She was Director of Behavioral Science for the Family Medicine Residency Program and the AAMC Women’s Liaison Officer for UNSOM in Las Vegas for 25 years until she retired in 2015. She received her Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development/Addictions from Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, and her M.S.W. in Interpersonal Practice from the University of Michigan School of Social Work in Ann Arbor. Following graduate school, she did extended training in family therapy, family therapy supervision, and sex therapy. Until retirement, she was an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, AAMFT Approved Family Therapy Supervisor, American Balint Society Certified Balint Group leader, and Board Certified in Clinical Social Work. She has done faculty development programs in cultural competency at UCSF and gerontology at UCLA’s Geriatric Education Center. Professor Emerita Ellwood has continued to do volunteer teaching and leading Balint groups for the Department of Psychiatry.
