Video Models and Destigmatization: A Qualitative Study Oct. 15

Join us Oct. 15 for a free virtual workshop, "Video Models and Destigmatization: A Qualitative Study" presented by Payal Sharma.

"During a three-year period, I was deeply embedded in the hip hop and rap music industry to study the career experiences of video models. I interviewed 46 models and industry informants (such as video producers, directors, photographers, rappers and makeup artists) across the country and conducted field observations at a hip-hop music video shoot in Atlanta. Drawing from my project’s qualitative data, I will discuss the processes through which video models destigmatize themselves from their ‘dirty work’ (or work that is physically, socially or morally tainted) and the implications for how they experience less negative interpersonal interactions (such as being abused and harassed by others) on sets as a result."
