Upcoming Staff Development Training Opportunities for December

The ​office of ​human ​resources would like to announce that the remaining December training schedule is available to view on our website. Aside from our usual array of developmental training opportunities designed to enhance your skills and knowledge of UNLV's processes and procedures, we also are offering a variety of new workshops each month. These workshops will be facilitated by expert trainers from Ceridian Lifeworks, UNLV's employee assistance program. We encourage you to go to our website periodically and view all of the professional development opportunities available this semester. Registration for classes as well as details on each workshop are available online. 

Training Topics for December:

Communication: The Art of Listening

Participants will learn to: 1) Assess your listening skills, 2) Identify the barriers to effective listening and learn strategies for removing them, and  3) Identify a model for effective listening and apply its components.

Training Date: Dec. 12

Time: 11 a.m. – noon

Location: Campus Services Building (CSB), Room 212 G


Managing Your Work Style to Reduce Stress

Participants will learn to: 1) Identify the traits of a high-stress and a low-stress work style, 2) Describe each style's impact on you and your co-workers, 3) Develop strategies for fine-tuning your perspective, tapping into your wisdom, and applying humor to reduce stress.

Training Date: Dec. 14

Time: 11 a.m. - noon

Basic Leadership Skills for Everyone and Every Job

Participants will learn to: 1) Recognize the importance of using basic leadership skills in any job, 2) Assess personal leadership capabilities, 3) Identify eight critical leadership strategies and ways to put them into action, and 4) Develop a personal plan for applying leadership skills to a job. 

Training Date: Dec. 18

Time: 1 – 2 p.m.

Running Effective Meetings

Participants will learn to: 1) Plan and prepare for meetings, 2) Explore strategies to encourage participation and sharing of ideas, 3) Apply problem solving, decision making, and action planning as a group, and 4) Close a meeting and follow up on action items.

Training Date: Dec. 20

Time: 1 - 2 p.m.
