UNLV College of Sciences Mourns the Passing of Faculty Emeritus Vernon Hodge

It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of Vernon (Vern) Hodge on January 24, 2025. Vern was a professor of chemistry until his retirement in March of 2021 after 39 years with UNLV.

Vern joined the UNLV Environmental Research Center in 1982 and continued there until joining the Chemistry department as an associate professor in 1988. Over the years he contributed to the development of the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry championing both graduate and undergraduate programs.

He was instrumental in the formation of the department’s first graduate program in Environmental Analytical Chemistry, and also played an important role in development of UNLV’s first Radiochemistry program.

Former students appreciated his mentorship and leadership and students and colleagues alike recognized his enthusiasm for science and his work at UNLV. The College of Sciences is thinking of his family during this difficult time.
