Russell Frank Astronomy Lecture Series Oct. 28

The physics and astronomy department presents The Russell Frank Astronomy Lecture Series, "Architecture, Cosmology and Culture at Chaco Canyon, New Mexico" presented by Andy Munro of the University of Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Oct. 28. The lecture will be held via Webex.

Astronomical associations with the monumental “Great Houses” of Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, provide direct evidence for multi-cultural collaboration, and changes in social intent between the late 800s and 1140 CE. We’ll discuss how Great House orientations, and their positions with respect to celestial horizon markers supplement other lines of archaeological evidence to improve understanding of Chacoan social dynamics.

This talk is intended for a general audience including enthusiasts of all backgrounds and ages.
