General Guidelines for UNLV Vehicles and Carts

As you drive on behalf of UNLV or operate university-owned vehicles and carts, it's important to stay up to date with established procedures and requirements. Please review the following guidelines to ensure proper compliance and safety. 

General Guidelines for UNLV Vehicles and Carts

  • Authorized Use: UNLV vehicles and carts must be used exclusively for conducting university business and should only be operated for their intended purpose.
  • Authorized Operators: Only UNLV employees, student workers, and documented volunteers are permitted to operate UNLV vehicles or carts.

Driver Requirements

To operate a UNLV vehicle, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Valid Driver’s License: Drivers must possess a current, valid driver’s license appropriate for the class of the vehicle they will operate.
  2. Acknowledgment Form: Drivers must read and sign the Vehicle Employee Acknowledgment Form 
  3. Defensive Driving Training
    o    Drivers must complete a 4-hour defensive driving training course within their first year of employment. 
    o    A refresher course must be completed every four years thereafter.

Golf Cart Safety Training

Employees operating golf carts on campus must successfully complete cart safety training before use. Note: A driver's license and defensive driving training is not required for cart operation.

Personal Vehicle Use for UNLV Business

Employees using their personal vehicles for university business must:

Adherence to these policies ensures safety, reduces liability, and promotes responsible use of UNLV resources.
