Do you have obsessions or compulsions, or have been diagnosed with OCD? If so, we invite you to take part in a research study being conducted by UNLV psychology professor Russell Hurlburt, Ph.D., one of the world’s experts on inner experience.
We are interested in exploring the inner experience (thoughts, sensations, feelings, etc.) of a few individuals with symptoms of OCD. If you have OCD symptoms and are 18 years old or older, please fill out this form.
There, you will find information about the entire study: our data practices, and an informed consent form. If you agree to participate, you will answer some questions assessing your OCD symptoms, your physical and mental health, and your demographic information.
You are not eligible to participate in this study if any of the following apply to you:
- You are 17 years old or younger,
- You do not have OCD symptoms
Time Commitment:
- Phase 1: 30 minutes
- Phase 2: 1 hour
- Phase 3: 1 hour per interview; up to 10 interviews
Compensation:
- If you are eligible to earn research credit through UNLV's SONA system, you can receive up to 11.5 credits.
There may be some direct benefits to your participation in this study. You may find it enjoyable to consider these aspects of your health and experience. You may learn something about how psychological research studies are conducted. In general, however, the primary benefit of participating in Phase 1 is that it may provide the opportunity to advance to Phase 3. Dr. Hurlburt is the originator of descriptive experience sampling (DES), which uses a random beeper to prompt descriptions of inner experiences in everyday life. Although DES has been used in published research studies for over 40 years, it has never been used to study OCD. Therefore, your participation in this study provides you with the unique opportunity to explore uncharted waters with Dr. Hurlburt and our research team. Most participants find DES to be enlightening and enjoyable.

We hope that you will take part in our study! Participation can take place in-person (UNLV Maryland Campus; CDC 600) or remotely via Zoom. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Hurlburt (1-702-895-0194), the principal investigator for this study, or Amber Goto, clinical psychology graduate student (amber.goto@unlv.edu).
