Developers said Wednesday they're starting construction on a privately-funded $1.4 billion retractable-roof sports arena and resort backed by a former UNLV and National Basketball Association player at a former waterpark site on the Las Vegas Strip.

Las Vegas is edging closer to getting its own medical school. The state Board of Regents decided Friday to ask the governor to put $45.94 million toward transforming medical education in Nevada.

A UNLV stadium board member, Regent James Dean Leavitt, said he will tell his fellow board members at Wednesday’s panel meeting that the Clark County sales tax and the room tax should be increased slightly to pay for an on-campus domed stadium.
