More than 35 volunteers — including President Len Jessup — turned out on a warm, pleasant morning February 10 to make the academic mall and Pida Plaza even that much more pleasant.

Working in conjunction with United Way, the UNLV Beautification Project saw volunteers, mostly comprising staff and faculty, work with seven members of facilities management to stroll the mall picking up garbage and debris, pulling weeds and raking leaves to bring an early dose of spring cleaning to campus.

"It's good to help out. It just makes you feel better. I've worked with [United Way] at Opportunity Village before," said Writing Center adjunct Meagan Madariaga-Hopkins while yanking weeds from one of Pida's planters.

Rebel Random Acts of Kindness Month continues through the rest of February.
