One month and two days after a shooting that rocked the UNLV campus community to its core, some faculty and staff members returned to work on Monday.

In an open letter to UNLV staff and students ahead of the spring semester on January 16, UNLV Keith Whitfield announced the university's efforts to enhance safety and security on campus. According to the letter, a committee curated of students and staff will be looking at UNLV's security measures and suggest changes accordingly.

As UNLV continues to process the Dec. 6 campus shooting, President Keith Whitfield announced a new program, an update on Beam Hall, and a campus memorial in a letter to students and faculty on Friday.

The goal of the program is to provide a variety of wellness services, events and training opportunities during the upcoming semester, which begins on Jan. 16.

As UNLV prepares to bring operations back to a new normal next week, a psychology professor is studying the immediate emotional effects last month’s campus shooting had on the community.

The announcement was made as part of the Rebel Recovery Program, a campuswide initiative that will begin to roll out this month, according to the President.
