Student Union And Event Services Accomplishments

Jay Nietling (Physics and Astronomy), Katelyn DiBenedetto (Graduate College), Anabel Chavva (Service Learning & Leadership), Sara Tajalli (Writing Center), Shanna Kinzel (Student Union & Event Services), and Jill Zimbelman (Research and Economic Development) are this year's recipients of the Professional Development Awards. These $500 awards are granted to individuals who would like funding for a professional development endeavor. Six are granted each year and can be used toward numerous professional development opportunities, including: Conference travel Workshops Training Certificates Winners were announced at the annual Administrative Faculty Development Day on Sept. 19.

Heather Rappaport (Student Union and Event Services) received the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award at the national conference of the Association of Collegiate Conference and Event Directors, International last month. She serves as the director for Region 1, which includes 13 U.S. states and three Canadian areas, and is the assistant director for sales & business operations in the Student Union and event services department.

Heather Rappaport (Student Union & Event Services) has earned the Collegiate Conference and Events Professional Certification by the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors-International. Candidates for this certification are required to provide evidence of substantial professional experience, provide volunteer service to the profession, and complete a lengthy research-based examination. She will be recognized at the association's annual conference in Orlando, Florida, this month.

Heather Rappaport (Student Union and Event Services) has been elected the Region 1 director for the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors - International (ACCED-I) professional association for 2017-18. She will be involved in leadership decisions and working with conferences and events for the association as a part of its leadership team.

UNLV was chosen as the 2015 Best Venue to Host a Youth Meeting or Sports Camp by Unique Venues at its annual marketing conference in Washington, DC. Unique Venues is an international organization that connects more than 90,000 event planners with nontraditional event properties. The award was accepted by the Student Union and Event Services department.
