Pearl Kim, Chris Cochran, Jay Shen (all Healthcare Administration), Ji Yoo (Medicine), Seong-Min Park (Criminal Justice), and former international visiting scholars Sungyoun Chun and Yong-Jae Lee published a paper, "Trends and Associated Factors of Use of Opioid, Heroin, and Cannabis among Patients for Emergency Department Visits in Nevada: 2009–2017" on Medicine. They found a steady increase in trends of opioid, heroin, and cannabis-associated emergency department visits in recent years in Nevada; and the main contributing factors include patient sociodemographic factors and mental health conditions, as well as use of other substances.
