Last week, the Department of Accounting hosted the final round of the Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) Business Case Competition, which focused on Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues in the mining industry. Four finalist teams presented before a panel of judges, with the winning team -- Jacob Gross, Jonathan Kim, Jiun Liu, and Sabrina Nedza -- taking home first-place honors and $20,000 in prize money. ⠀

NGM teamed with the Lee Business School and the Department of Accounting in presenting the case competition to provide needed financial assistance to business students at UNLV, enhance public awareness and perceptions of the mining industry in Nevada, and increase students' understanding of career opportunities in the mining industry and with NGM.

Thanks to the generous support of Nevada Gold Mines, each of the 16 finalist students walked away with at least $1,000 in prize money to support their education. ⠀

Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) is a joint venture between Barrick and Newmont to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world.
