Paid Internships Available for Fall 2021
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities National Internship Program (HNIP), in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is currently seeking students in the to fill the following paid internship positions. 

  • Pay rates per week: Undergraduate: $610 | Graduate: $680
  • These positions are virtual
  • This position is open to all residents of the United States.

Eligibility

  •  Authorization or eligibility to work in the United States by law (HACU participates in Everify)
  • Completion of freshman year of college before the internship begins
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) is preferable but not required as agencies are the ones that make selections
  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program (e.g., BA/BS, Masters, JD, MD, or Ph.D.) at an accredited higher education institution. Students pursuing only a credential or certificate program will be considered ineligible.

Attention Recent Graduates

Temporary Policy Extension in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, HACU is extending the eligibility period for recent graduates. Recent graduates can apply and participate for the remaining sessions in 2020. The student must be within two years of graduation by December 2020.

JOB TITLE: Desert National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) water resources documentation for management and communication

INTERNSHIP LOCATION: 16001 Corn Creek Road Las Vegas, NV 89124

DESIRED MAJORS: Biological Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Conservation Biology, Agriculture, Zoology, Wildlife Management, or an appropriate field of biology that includes Botany, Ornithology, or Mammalogy.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Field work required on and around the Desert NWR. Developing an electronic water resources document that compiles water locations on Desert National Wildlife Refuge (guzzlers, springs, seeps).

JOB TITLE: Improving Hydrodynamic models in Klamath River

INTERNSHIP LOCATION: 1655 Heindon Road, Arcata, CA 95521

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: GIS water modeling for the Klamath River. Graduate Intern preferred.

JOB TITLE: Salt Pond and Salt Marsh Monitoring at the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge and Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge

JOB TITLE: Sacramento Fish and Wildlife Office (SFWO) Conservation, Planning, and Restoration Program Support Internship

JOB TITLE: Adaptable Grid Based Survey App Development Using ESRI Collector
