UNLV's Machine Shop Can Help With Your Equipment Needs

UNLV SEB Machine Shop
Jul. 10, 2017

You may be aware that UNLV's Science and Engineering Building has a state-of-the-art machine shop that provides equipment and repair services to SEB occupants, other campus researchers, and the broader research community. But did you know that, in addition to designing and producing high-quality, affordable machined parts for research projects, the machine shop can also build equipment for other university programs? As a fully equipped facility that employs an experienced full-time manager, the 2,500 square-foot machine shop can accommodate projects of significant size and diversity, including producing intricate custom-made parts, creating unique devices that support curriculum, crafting hardware for Facilities Management, and more.

Here are some of the services the SEB Machine Shop provides to the UNLV campus:

  • Complete designing — from sketches to final assembly — via numerical milling machines, water jet, welding equipment, conventional mills, lathes and drill presses, a paint booth, grinding equipment, and metal-cutting and bending equipment.
  • Design assistance with laboratory and research apparatuses.
  • Repair of existing equipment.
  • Resources for rapid prototyping and numerical machining, including those for building 3-D CAD designs created in ProEngineer, Solidworks, AutoCAD 3D, and more.

Design and fabrication services start at $45 per hour and can be billed to any UNLV department. For assistance with your project, please contact Tony Filipiak at anthony.filipiak@unlv.edu or 702-774-1423.
