UNLV School of Music alum announced as a semifinalist for the 2021 Grammy Music Educator Award

Nov. 19, 2020

Congratulations to UNLV School of Music alum Kimberly Barclay Ritzer (B.Mus.Ed. '90), who was recently announced as a semifinalist for the 2021 Grammy Music Educator Award. Out of nearly 2,000 music educators nominated for the award, only 25 were selected by the Recording Academy and Grammy Museum to advance to the semi-final round. Kim, choir director at Green Valley High School, is the only semi-finalist from Nevada. She is a beloved and respected educator, and she has been teaching music for 31 years in the Clark County School District.

The national award recognizes teachers making a significant and lasting contribution to music education, while demonstrating a commitment to keeping music education in schools.

Ten finalists will be named in December, and a winner will be highlighted during the 2021 Grammy week events. The winner will receive a $10,000 prize and matching grant for their school’s program.

We're so proud of you, Kim. Thank you for all you do for the students, the community, and for raising the profile of music education!
