Faculty Senators - (2 seats) (3 year term) - Bio Required Please!
As a Faculty Senator, you are a both a leader of the UNLV faculty and an obligated servant of its interests and mission. The UNLV Faculty Senate is the voice of the academic and administrative faculty working transparently with the UNLV administration to advance the vision and direction of the institution.
UNLV Faculty Senators must be available during the academic year on Tuesdays from 12:15 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. for meetings. Senate meetings are typically held on the third Tuesday of each month. In addition, Administrative Faculty senators are also members of the Administrative Faculty Committee (AFC), and should expect to attend the AFC meeting the first Wednesday of every month from 12:00 P.M. to1:00 P.M. Seeking nominations from the following areas:
Finance & Business
Administrative Faculty Committee – 6 seats – (3 year term)
The Administrative Faculty Committee (AFC) is a standing committee of the Faculty Senate and participates in university governance by reviewing and recommending policy on issues that directly affect administrative faculty such as merit and compensation, human resources, faculty senate representation, orientation, and the general communication amongst all administrative faculty members. AFC representatives should expect to attend the AFC meetings the first Wednesday of every month from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. Seeking nominations from the following areas:
Allied Health/Dental/Nursing/Community Health Sciences
Research and Economic Development/Graduate College (1 Year Term)
Academic Freedom & Ethics Committee – 1 seats (2 year term)
Academic Freedom and Ethics investigates complaints of violations of academic freedom. They also consider questions of ethical conduct of academic faculty or administrative faculty.
Committee determines convenient meeting dates as determined by charges to committee.
Curriculum Committee – 1 seat (2 year term)
The Undergraduate Curriculum committee recommends approval or rejection of proposed undergraduate programs of study and proposed undergraduate courses of instruction. They are the watchdog for redundancy, course numbering and credit distribution.
The Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee meets throughout the semester to review curriculum. This committee reviews all changes and additions to existing curriculum.
Grievance Committee – 8 seats (3 year term)
Investigates grievances involving faculty and administrative faculty and reviews policy regarding grievances.
Priority & New Program Review – 1 seat (3 year term)
Responsible for selection of grants-in-aid and academic scholarships that are not specifically allocated. They work with the Student Financial Services Director to establish standards of selection.
