UNLV DMA Bass Student Chosen To Perform With Prestigious "Sisters in Jazz"

UNLV DMA bass performance student and graduate teaching assistant (Musicology) Molly Redfield has been chosen as the bassist for the Jazz Educators Network (JEN) Sisters in Jazz Collegiate Combo. This collegiate combo was an auditioned international competition for full-time university students ages 18-29 identifying as young women or non-binary jazz artists to be selected to perform in the Sisters in Jazz quintet at the JEN conference in Dallas, TX, in January of 2022. 

Molly earned her Masters Degree in Jazz Studies at UNLV in 2019, and was a graduate teaching assistant for the Division of Jazz Studies and the Division of Wind Band Studies. 

Some of Molly’s achievements include being a member of the Women in Jazz Allstar Combo at the 2019 and 2020 Palm Springs Women’s Jazz Festival, the 2017 Outstanding Festival Soloist at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, and the 2016 Outstanding Collegiate Rhythm Section Performer at the Reno International Jazz Festival. She has also been honored with a 2021 DownBeat Magazine Student Music Award for her vocal arrangement of “Moonglow.” 

In addition to her playing and writing, Molly is a passionate music educator and serves as a mentor for the Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra.
