UNLV DECA Student Places First in International Competition

UNLV DECA collegiate chapter at ICDC in Orlando Florida

The UNLV DECA team had a strong showing at the annual DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida where they competed in various categories from advertising to accounting.

Prior to the start of the conference,  the UNLV DECA chapter won the following awards:

 

  • Presidential Chapter Leadership Passport Award
  • Community Service Award
  • Advocacy Campaign Award (1 of 3 chapters in the nation to receive this award)
  • 4 Blue Individual Leadership Passport Awards
  • 2 Gold Individual Leadership Passport Awards
  • 2 Academic Honor Awards

At the competition, 11 UNLV DECA student members competed, and three placed in the top three in their events, including Christine Villarian who placed first internationally. Competitors included: 

  • Adriana Batiz | Entrepreneurship - Starting A Business
  • Martin Beck | Emerging Technology Marketing Strategies (Top 10 International Finalist)
  • Courtlynne Cowan | Hotel and Lodging (3rd Place Internationally)
  • Marcelle Cruzado | Emerging Technology Marketing Strategies (preliminary finalist)
  • Collin Ermi | Management Accounting (3rd Place Internationally)
  • Michelle Le | Advertising Campaign (preliminary finalist)
  • Team of Annie Lu & Ingrid Zarate | Business Ethics
  • Claire Stanley | Financial Accounting
  • Christine Villarin | Business Research (1st Place Internationally)
  • Diana Vuong | Financial Accounting

Additionally, chapter president Michelle Le was elected to the Collegiate DECA Executive Officer team. Michelle is the first Nevadan to take a position as an international officer for the organization.
