Two Accounting Professors Brought Home Gold This Summer
As all eyes were on the Olympics this summer, two Lee Business School professors were busy landing their own awards in the field of accounting. Dr. Robyn Raschke won the American Accounting Association’s Strategic and Emerging Technologies Section award for Outstanding Service and Dr. Michael Cummings received the Best Paper award in the International Management Division at the Academy of Management’s annual meeting.
The American Accounting Association (AAA) is the largest community of accountants in academia. The organization holds annual world-class meetings in accounting research that includes dedicated sections for specific areas of interest. This year marked Raschke’s fourth time as co-host and coordinator for the Transformative Technologies Workshop at the AAA’s Annual Meeting and Conference on Teaching and Learning in Accounting. For the 2016 session, the workshop was comprised of a series of presentations by industry leaders that shared ideas on how accounting is being transformed. Topics ranged from big data analytics to emerging technologies to privacy compliance and more.
The Academy of Management is a professional association for management and organization scholars and within the organization, the International Management division focuses on content pertaining to the theory, research, and practice of management. Cummings, who teaches legal and ethical environments in business, was recognized at the academies annual meeting for having the most outstanding article of the year titled “Diaspora Engagement Institutions and Venture Investment Activity in Developing Countries.”
These two awards show the contributions made by professors within the academic community. Presenting their research through different mediums in presentations and articles, it is incredible for them to be acknowledged for the efforts they are making. Congratulations Dr. Raschke and Dr. Cummings on receiving these accolades and furthering Lee Business School’s dedication to service and research.
