Student's Work Receives National Magazine Award Nomination
A UNLV student story about the health impacts of letting your dog sleep in your bed at night is part of a media package that's up for a major journalism award. The story, written as an assignment in a Journalism and Media Studies summer course, first ran on Men's Health's website. The piece was later syndicated to Women's Health, who folded it into their online Sleep Center. The Sleep Center was recently nominated for a National Magazine Award, an award akin to the Oscars of the magazine world.
The student, Samantha Fry, did an excellent job developing a smart, practical, service-oriented idea, then knocked the piece out of the park with solid reporting and writing that carefully demystified the complex health science in a fun, engaging way. Read the story here.
